Truman wins K-8 at SuperStates 2014, Ojas ties for 1st in K-5

Truman Hoang is our new 2014 Florida State K-8 Champion. Ojas Kalia is 2014 Florida State K-5 Co-Champion. The margin between victory & defeat is narrow. 2012 Champ Roshan Jayaraman played great chess in the K-8 yet lost in the last round. Peter Peng also had a shot and managed a draw in a wild game with K-5 Co-Champ Justin Kleidermacher. We are also very proud of our beginner, Miyaz Ansari, who had an even score in the K-1.

Truman finished with 5 out of 6 points, and earned the 1st place trophy based on tie-breakers (6-way tie). Consequently, he will represent the State of Florida in the Barber Tournament of K-8 Champions.

Ojas "Hungry Dog" Kalia has had an astounding improvement since joining Yes2Chess just over 1 month ago. He has an insatiable hunger for chess, demanding extra lessons from Coach Mike. Once Coach Mike even had to tell Ojas to go home as it had gotten really, really late ... 1:30 am. Ojas' hard work has been rewarded with a jump of 290 ratings points & 3 first place finishes out of 3 tournaments in a row.
