September Open, Saturday, September 21, 2013

Presented by Tampa Chess Centre and Yes2Chess.com

Cuban correspondence champion Luis R. Valdes his successful US debut on September 21 by winning our Yes2Chess Open with a perfect 4-0 score. Scott Galbraith finished 2nd in a field of gentlemanly sportsmen including Hungarian champion Attila Sonkoly, Doug Ashbaugh, and junior stars Roshan Jayaraman & Peter Peng. Roshan had every chance to win the event beginning with executing a flawless game in round 1 over Peng. Nevertheless, Jayaraman lost two heartbreakers in a row in superior positions vs. Valdes & Sonkoly. Peng was resilient with a fine draw in the last round vs. Galbraith. Our young players are benefiting tremendously by playing such tough competition in preparation for Nationals at Orlando in December. Many thanks to all our participants!
